Senior Civil Engineer

The Senior Civil Engineer shall be responsible for the planning, design, design review, coordination, supervision, and implementation of civil and structural works for the company’s projects. The position requires strong capability in both engineering design and practical construction works. The Senior Civil Engineer shall ensure that designs are technically sound, constructible, economical, and compliant with applicable codes, standards, project specifications, contractual requirements, and approved drawings.

The Senior Civil Engineer shall also provide technical support during project execution, resolve site engineering issues, review contractor works, and ensure that construction is implemented in accordance with approved designs and required quality standards.

Scope of Responsibilities

Civil and Structural Design

·   Perform and/or lead civil and structural design activities for different types of engineering and construction projects.

·   Prepare engineering calculations, design criteria, design reports, technical specifications, drawings, and other engineering deliverables.

·   Design reinforced concrete and structural steel structures as required by the project.

·   Design foundations for buildings, equipment, electrical equipment, solar PV structures, transformers, switchgear, BESS equipment, and other project facilities.

·   Design or review roads, access roads, drainage systems, retaining structures, culverts, trenches, cable routes, equipment platforms, boundary walls/fences, and other civil infrastructure.

·   Evaluate site conditions, topography, geotechnical information, loading requirements, and environmental conditions during design.

·   Coordinate survey, geotechnical, architectural, structural, and other relevant engineering information.

·   Ensure that designs are practical, safe, economical, and suitable for construction.

·   Prepare and review quantity take-offs, BOQs, material quantities, and technical specifications.

·   Support preparation of conceptual, preliminary, detailed, and construction designs.

Design Review

·   Review civil and structural designs prepared by consultants, contractors, subcontractors, manufacturers, and other engineering teams.

·   Verify design calculations, assumptions, loading criteria, material properties, dimensions, reinforcement details, and structural arrangements.

·   Review drawings for completeness, accuracy, constructability, and coordination with other disciplines.

·   Identify design errors, omissions, inconsistencies, clashes, and potential construction problems.

·   Prepare professional design review comments and follow up until comments are satisfactorily resolved.

·   Review revised drawings and documents and recommend approval, approval with comments, or revision as appropriate.

·   Review shop drawings, method statements, material submittals, technical datasheets, and construction procedures.

·   Ensure that design modifications made during construction are properly reviewed and documented.

Construction and Project Implementation

·   Supervise and provide technical guidance for civil and structural construction activities.

·   Ensure that construction activities are performed according to approved drawings, specifications, method statements, BOQ, and applicable standards.

·   Monitor excavation, earthworks, grading, backfilling, compaction, concrete works, reinforcement, formwork, structural steel works, masonry, roads, drainage, foundations, and other civil works.

·   Verify setting-out, elevations, coordinates, dimensions, levels, slopes, and construction tolerances.

·   Inspect reinforcement, formwork, embedded items, anchor bolts, foundations, and other works before concrete placement.

·   Review and resolve technical problems encountered during construction.

·   Provide practical engineering solutions where site conditions differ from the approved design.

·   Coordinate design changes and site modifications with the Project Manager and relevant engineering disciplines.

·   Participate in inspections, testing, commissioning-related civil inspections, punch listing, and final acceptance.

·   Review and verify as-built drawings and completed construction documentation.

Construction Experience and Site Management

·   Demonstrate strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, equipment, materials, and site practices.

·   Provide technical guidance to site engineers, supervisors, foremen, technicians, and subcontractors.

·   Monitor construction progress and identify technical issues that may affect schedule, cost, quality, or safety.

·   Coordinate civil works with electrical, mechanical, architectural, and other disciplines.

·   Verify that construction activities are practical and consistent with actual site conditions.

·   Participate in site meetings and technical coordination meetings.

·   Assist the Project Manager in planning and monitoring civil construction activities.

·   Support evaluation of contractor/subcontractor performance and completed quantities.

Quality Assurance and Quality Control

·   Ensure civil and structural works comply with approved QA/QC requirements.

·   Review Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), checklists, method statements, and inspection requests.

·   Inspect construction materials and verify compliance with approved specifications.

·   Monitor concrete quality, reinforcement installation, compaction, welding/structural works, and other relevant construction activities.

·   Review relevant laboratory and field test results.

·   Identify non-conforming works and recommend appropriate corrective actions.

·   Participate in preparation and closure of NCRs, punch lists, and quality observations.

·   Maintain proper engineering and inspection records.

Technical Coordination and Documentation

·   Coordinate closely with electrical, mechanical, architectural, geotechnical, survey, and project management teams.

·   Ensure proper interface between civil works and electrical/mechanical equipment.

·   Participate in design coordination and technical meetings with clients, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.

·   Prepare technical reports, site reports, engineering assessments, and technical correspondence.

·   Respond to RFIs and other technical queries related to civil and structural works.

·   Maintain proper records of drawings, calculations, approvals, revisions, and technical decisions.

·   Support preparation of tender documents, technical proposals, cost estimates, and project schedules when required.

Minimum Qualifications

·   Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from a recognized university.

·   Master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is an advantage.

·   Professional engineering certification or registration is an advantage.

·   Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience in civil engineering, preferably including both engineering design and construction/project implementation.

·   Demonstrated experience in civil and structural design.

·   Demonstrated practical experience in construction and site supervision.

·   Experience in infrastructure, industrial, power, renewable-energy, solar PV, substation, transmission-line, or similar projects is preferred.

·   Experience in reviewing engineering designs and construction drawings.

·   Good understanding of construction materials, methodologies, quality control, and site practices.
